Overview
About the family
Alyamama is a new generation of Arabic typeface that blends the elegance of traditional Naskh with modern design technology. Built as a variable font with clean, optimised outlines, it is engineered for today’s high-resolution screens.
This isn’t another Boutros Ads, Muna, or Al Mohannad Bold — the design keeps calligraphic integrity while simplifying the outlines enough to render quickly and hold up at small sizes.
Design concept
- Variable font — a continuous weight axis from Light to Black, with seamless interpolation between every point on it.
- Simplified and geometric — minimal yet refined outlines that speed up text rendering and improve performance.
- Optically adjusted — careful attention to spacing and stem heights ensures visual harmony and readability at both display and text sizes.
- Calligraphic integrity — each glyph is derived from the traditional Naskh style, preserving the beauty of Arabic calligraphy.
- Wide forms — letters such as مـ، هـ، ط have been expanded for clarity at small sizes.
Character set
The family covers 1,486 glyphs, including a full Arabic set with contextual initial, medial, and final forms, plus a Latin companion based on the open-source typeface UNAL Ancízar.
