A Saudi type designer, calligrapher, and founder of Mestara.

A lifelong calligrapher who designed his first font at fifteen, he has since dedicated his work to elevating the quality and presence of Arabic typography.

Beyond Mestara, he has founded multiple creative ventures, including one dedicated to teaching Arabic calligraphy and selling tools and resources for calligraphers. His work consistently reflects a deep dedication to expanding Arabic type content and enriching the limited landscape of high-quality Arabic fonts available today.

Mestara is an independent Arabic type foundry founded in 2023 by Saudi type designer and calligrapher Yazeed Omar. Mestara designs and licenses contemporary Arabic typefaces, and draws custom fonts and logotypes for brands. It is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
What does the name Mestara mean?
Mestara (مِسطرة) is the Arabic word for a ruler — the measuring tool. The foundry chose the name to signal the precision it applies to designing Arabic letterforms.
Can I license Mestara typefaces for commercial use?
Yes. Every Mestara retail family is available for desktop, web, and app licensing. Licensing is handled directly by the foundry rather than through a self-serve checkout — contact Mestara at hello@mestara.com to arrange a licence.
Does Mestara design custom typefaces?
Yes. Mestara draws bespoke typefaces, logotypes, and lettering exclusively for a single brand, including Arabic companions that match an existing Latin typeface. The foundry works with both agencies and in-house design teams.
Do Mestara typefaces support Latin as well as Arabic?
Yes. Mestara families are drawn with Arabic and Latin in parallel, so both scripts share consistent proportions, weight, and rhythm rather than pairing an Arabic face with an unrelated Latin one.
